Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table
Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.
The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the party access places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight players to form the Questers and Planners groups.
Fans can expect learning which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
